Some of the greatest songs in the music theatre repertoire were created not for the Stage, but for the Screen. Songs can only be considered for an Academy Award if they don't already exist in the musical. Don’t Cry for me Argentina is ineligible as it was written for a show BUT, if an additional song is written for the film version and sung by its star (Madonna) an Academy Award could be won! And so, we have heard many a musical being ‘enhanced’ for the motion picture version. From the greats like Rodgers and Hammerstein, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz and Kander and Ebb to contemporary compositions, many new musical moments have been found in the act of crossing genres.
Come hear the songs you didn’t know the musicals needed from well-known titles such as: The Sound of Music, Matilda, Dear Evan Hanson, Les Misérables, Evita, Cats, Cabaret, Annie, Beauty and the Beast and more and you decide who should win the awards!
