Audition portal

Welcome to the Australian Musical Theatre Festival Audition Portal!

We are passionate about nurturing talent, not just in our workshops and classrooms but in performance. If you would like to join our many headliners and special guests on stage, enhance your process through a crafted product, or upskill/enhance your work through performance, then we want to hear from you!

The Festival has many performance opportunities open to you and are always eager to see who is out there. We do not mind what your age or experience level, we want to encourage you to audition.

This year, we are looking for performers to participate in:

When I Get My Name in Lights, Chasing Oscar, and Come to the Cabaret.

If you are interested in participating in any of these, please send in a video of one song and if there is something in particular you’d like to be considered for, please state it in your video. Alternatively, you can just submit a ‘general audition’ of a Musical Theatre song and we can evaluate where you best fit.

When I Get My Name in Lights

This is your chance to perform on the stage of Launceston’s beautiful Princess Theatre in a concert that brings together emerging artists with our most established international stars. Individuals can apply for this concert OR you can submit a routine from your school or group for consideration. We welcome any and kinds of Musical Theatre and aim to create a wonderful program encompassing singing, acting and dancing. In addition, there will be an opportunity to perform in EITHER the opening song and dance number with Alinta Chidzey or the closing choral number with Mark Vincent. If you are passionate about either, let us know.

Chasing Oscar

This show is designed to celebrate all those songs written for film musicals. Did you know that traditionally existing songs/scores are not eligible for an Oscar if written for another format ie. The song, ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ from Evita could not be considered for the film of Evita in 1996, as it was written for a stage musical in 1978 first. So, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote a NEW song for the film, ‘You Must Love Me’ that was not only eligible but won the Academy Award that year.

Films with original songs include…
Matilda, Dear Evan Hansen , Phantom of the Opera , Les Mis , Tick Tick Boom , Nine , Evita , A Little Night Music, West Side Story, A Funny thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Cats, Hello Dolly, Funny Girl, Into the Woods, The Prom, Everybody’s Talking About Jaimie, Cabaret, Jesus Christ Superstar, Little Shop of Horrors, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, The Sound of Music, Beauty and the Beast, A Chorus Line, Grease, Dreamgirls, Guys and Dolls, Godspell, and more…
Only the original songs written for the films will be considered ( a quick google search will reveal what they are).

Come to the Cabaret

This requires a Cabaret song – not a Musical Theatre song (or a musical theatre song performed in a cabaret style). In the interests of inclusion many of these songs will be chosen on the night but if you have a particular favourite you want considered, please include!

Please note that you can choose a song of any age or gender expression. We only require
ONE song so make it your best! (it can be an audition cut or the full song).

In addition, please be aware that there are several masterclasses (see below) presented in conjunction with the Theatre Council of Tasmania that you can also apply to perform in. If you are selected, you will receive a code to unlock and purchase a ticket to 'participate' for $60 (or $30 to upgrade if you have purchased an audit ticket already).

  • Caroline O'Connor, Headliner Masterclass
  • Mark Vincent, Headliner Masterclass
  • Alinta Chidzey, Headliner Masterclass

Other classes may ask for you to bring songs, but you do not have to apply for those.

Audtions close on April 6th, 2025 at midnight.

Successful applicants will be contacted by April 18th 2025.
