The role of the director is becoming increasingly challenging, with an already extensive skill set required to bring productions to the stage, further increased with awareness and responsibilities in relation to recent social change. With these responsibilities, directors and producers must be inventive in how to creatively revive musicals without reviving the outdated social constructs of the period.
Tyran Parke, director of such commercial musicals as,‘Chess’, ‘Barnum’ and ‘Follies’, will engage in a process of demystifying texts, while suggesting ways to approach material that keeps it relevant, engaging and welcoming to all. This is designed to appeal to all the theatre community with practitioners encouraged to bring their own work to interrogate in a safe and supportive environment.
